U15 offers a fully equipped recording studio with the possibility to perform extensive recordings and post-productions. Recordings from the speaker room U17 are possible. In addition, the control computer U15 can be switched to the control console in the speaker room U17 and operated from there.
Students are able to record telephone calls via the AVT telephone hybrid, mix and encode in 5.1 surround sound, feed signals from various rooms of the ZMK (such as U16, U17, U04, U01) and conduct professional video and film dubbing. For monitoring, high quality near-field studio monitors from Genelec are available in stereo, 2.1 or 5.1 configuration.
The control computer is an HP workstation tuned for audio production with the following software equipment:
- DAW-Software (Avid Pro Tools HD 10/HD 11)
- DAW-Software Steinberg Nuendo
- Virtual Instruments (Native Instruments Komplete 9: 120 GB sample database, 33 virtual instruments and effects, over 12000 sounds)

U16 is a radio studio with a total of 3 workstations. Students have access to a radio console, which is seamlessly integrated into the radio automation software "mAirList". Signals from different rooms in the ZMK can be received in U16, including the mixdown from the TV studio or from U15, all microphone signals from the recording room U17, or signals from the edit suite U04. In addition, telephone conversations can be recorded via the telephone hybrid from the manufacturer AVT or directly integrated into a live production. In addition to the control computer, an AV workstation for feature production and a computer for research work, broadcast schedule management or database maintenance are available.
In the so-called "Edit Suite", four high-performance workstations are available, which are optimized for professional and demanding work in the areas of AV production, photo editing and layout/graphic design.
Each workstation is equipped with additional devices for direct audio recording, a special video control monitor capable of reproducing the signal in true color, special controllers for intuitive and haptically optimal operation of the software systems, professional near-field monitoring speakers, a graphics tablet, a 30″ monitor designed for layout work with 10-bit color depth per RGB channel, as well as extensive and coordinated software equipment. In addition, each workstation is acoustically separated and has indirect backlighting with standard lighting characteristics. Since the summer semester 2016, 3D modeling with Maya and a direct transfer into Adobe After Effects is also possible in the Edit Suite computers.
For video editing, the programs Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 or Canopus Edius are available. For post-processing, Adobe After Effects and Autodesk Maya, among others, are installed.

This room is acoustically optimized for sound recordings and offers a very low reverberation time for studio-quality recordings. It is equipped with three large-diaphragm microphones (including a Brauner Panthera), but can be expanded with additional microphones or other microphone types, such as small-diaphragm or dynamic, if needed.
A height-adjustable speaker's desk with integrated manuscript lighting and adjustable connections for closed studio headphones allows the speaker to concentrate fully on his task. The large window provides a line of sight to the other recording studio rooms U16 and U15 as well as to the newsroom U03. A console offers the possibility of switching various computers, such as the control computers from U15/16 or a computer from the edit suite U04. The room can also be used to place studio guests for a radio broadcast driven in U16 or to accommodate an off-camera commentator or an interpreter for live productions in the TV studio.
For this latter purpose, the respective video signal can be shown latency-free and synchronously on a monitor in U17 and instructions can be given to the speaker in U17 via a built-in intercom connection from the various control rooms.
