Software for media production
The following software systems are available in the Centre for Media and Communication (ZMK) for comprehensive and cross-media media production:
Adobe Master Collection CS6
The complete Adobe Master Collection in the CS6 version offers a suitable editing programme for almost all types of media. This software package is available on a total of 39 office PCs (10 of which are mobile high-performance production laptops). All PCs are optimised for the operation of these programmes in terms of hardware and software. The Adobe Master Collection includes the following programmes:
- Photoshop CS6 Extended (photo editing, graphic design)
- Illustrator CS6 (graphic design, vector graphics)
- Adobe InDesign CS6 (layout)
- Acrobat X Pro (layout, PDF creation)
- Dreamweaver CS6 (web design)
- Adobe Flash Professional CS6 (animation)
- Adobe Flash Builder® 4.6 Premium (animation)
- Adobe Fireworks CS6 (graphic design, web graphics)
- Adobe Premiere® Pro CS6 (video processing, videos editing)
- Adobe After Effects CS6 (video postproduction, animation)
- Adobe Audition CS6 (audio editing)
- Adobe SpeedGrade CS6 (colouring)
- Adobe Prelude CS6 (video editing)
- Adobe Encore® CS6 (DVD authoring)
- Bridge CS6 (Digital Asset Management)
- Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (video conversion)
The Adobe Master Collection is fully integrated in the software infrastructure of the ZMK. For example, the editing system Woodwing interacts with the programmes InDesign and InCopy, and the server-based font management on the basis of the Extensis font server is directly networked with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. For some programmes of the Adobe Master Collection, special workshops are offered.
WoodWing Enterprise
WoodWing Enterprise is a complete cross-media multi-channel publishing system as used in the editing departments of large media companies. It enables you to organise different media such as photos, videos, text and layout, and to publish this media on different channels (print layout, website, app etc.). A powerful versioning function in the background logs every change to the files so that you can change back to earlier edited versions without any problems. The strict separation of layout and content makes it possible for the editor and layout artist to work simultaneously and check the progress of the other in real time.
Owing to the dynamic architecture Enterprise can be very easily combined with web content management systems (CMS). Editors can check content before they pass it to the CMS for publication with just one click. They can also retract already published content from Enterprise. Enterprise supports the ZMK’s Drupal and Wordpress platforms.
Enterprise also helps you in the efficient creation of publications for tablets: the layouts are created in InDesign. With Woodwing’s Digital Magazine plug-ins or the tools of Adobe Digital Publishing Suite for InDesign, you can add interactive elements to your content very easily. As you can also use your already existing content, such as texts, photos or videos in the Enterprise system, the creation of tablet publications parallel to print publications and web offers is no problem. Adobe Digital Publishing Suite (Adobe DPS)
Adobe DPS is integrated in the ZMK in the Adobe Master Collection and the editing system Woodwing Enterprise. Adobe DPS offers a variety of tools for creating interactive elements for digital publications as well as a complete publication environment for digital magazines.
Extensis Universal Type and Adobe Font Folio Font Library
The ZMK operates a font server on the basis of the Extensis Universal Type Server in version 4. All 25 office PCs of the newsroom and the four office PCs of the Edit Suite are equipped with client software which establishes a connection to the font server in the background, thereby making more than 2,400 professional fonts of the Adobe Font Folio Collection in all relevant programs of Adobe Master Collection (e.g. in InDesign) available at all office PCs. This means that the font library is stored centrally and font licences are also managed from the server side. You are welcome to extend the font library with additional fonts. NetSupport School
NetSupport School is 'classroom software' that offers different functions which can be used didactically in courses. This software is installed in the newsroom. In this way, files can be distributed to the office PCs which the monitors of the office PCs display at random on the projection screens, or the screen of the lecturer’sPCon the monitors of the remaining office PCs. In addition, tests and surveys can be created and evaluated quickly and easily with this program. You can find more information here.
Templates, pre-made graphics, sound effects and GEMA-free music
In the ZMK, a selection of pre-prepared graphics (including vector graphics), animation, sound effects and GEMA-free music is available for media production on a special network drive so that you can quickly and easily add music or incorporate suitable pictograms in layouts. You can even find animated backgrounds e.g. for greenscreen recordings or pre-produced graphics for video productions (e.g. lower thirds) in this collection.
