Data backups
ZIM are backed up regularly during the night on hard discs and computer tape. This data backup is not primarily for the purposes of archiving user data, but to make repair possible in the event of a system error. The file server is backed up together with the e-mail systems, the WWW server and other server services.
Data backups on the network drives
Please note that only the files that are stored on the network drives of the file servers are backed up. These are generally the drives 'H:' and 'I:'. You need to take care of data backups of local hard discs, i.e. mostly drives 'C:' and 'D:' yourself.
Data backups start daily at 10 p.m. and backup the version of a file that is saved on the file server at the time of the backup. Please note that documents which are being edited at that time cannot be backed up.
Backup strategy
On all days of the week (except Sundays and public holidays), files changed or newly created on the servers since the previous day are backed up on a disc system. Files that have been deleted are stored for 60 days on this disc system. On the 1st day of the month, the so-called monthly backup takes place in the form of a complete backup on tape. The tapes of the monthly backup are stored for 12 months and then reused.
